More Space…

Have you ever started searching for something you know is supposed to be right here and you end up with a mess worse than when you started just because it wasn’t where it belongs?

If you answered NO, then move on to a different topic. This page is not for you.

But, if you answered YES, then you need to think about de-cluttering your space to avoid the energy drain! So, read on…

I know the thought of de-cluttering can feel overwhelming and a gigantic job, and it probably is considering you have been accumulating over the years rather than de-cumulating. (I guess that’s not a real word, but I am sure you get the connotation.)

Benefits: Once you have accomplished the sorting, purging and organizing process you will have less to clean, less to stumble over, less to hunt through. You will have more space and less stress!

Possessions reflect everything you have ever been or hoped to become. There is a strong attachment to those things that symbolize the vision of yourself. However, the clue that your treasures are out of control is when you begin to experience more grief than joy. Clutter hides the treasures that actually bring you delight.

Concept of SPACE

We are all familiar with the concept of space. It is the distance between here and there—the extra room in the closet, file cabinet and computer hard drive. The reference to space works well with those things that are measurable.

Most of us are fully aware that our physical surroundings–cluttered or calm–influence our mental state. So, what about the space in your mind, the mental and emotional clutter? Having space in your physical environment is important, but having space in your head deserves attention as well. If your thoughts are overcrowded, constantly on a fast cycle, jumping from one subject to another and trying to keep up, then you can’t possibly listen, appreciate and fully comprehend the sound of a barking dog, a train whistle, or what is being said by a person talking to you. And, you can’t possibly remember everything!

Gretchen Rubin wrote in The Happiness Project that she was “weighed down by the invisible, psychic clutter of loose ends. She had a long list of neglected tasks that made her feel weary and guilty whenever she thought about them. She was going to clear away the detritus in her mind.”

What do you do to create valuable space in your mind? Look at it this way. You are not goofing off when you space out; it is just the process of defragging your brain’s hard drive to keep all your programs running efficiently. You are creating valuable space.
